MN And ND Senators Seek Improvements in Newspaper Deliveries By USPS

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KVRR) — Senators from North Dakota and Minnesota are pushing the U.S. Postal Service to improve its delivery of newspapers and limit rate increases.

Senators Hoeven, Cramer, Klobuchar and Smith are all part of the Deliver for Democracy Act.

Hoeven says the legislation is about ensuring the postal service follows through on its commitment to improve newspaper delivery.

In recent years, USPS has consistently raised rates for periodicals as a means to increase efficiency and improve service.

But Hoeven says local news continues to face persistent delivery delays.

The legislation aims for a 95% on-time delivery rate for periodicals or an improvement of at least 2% to unlock its 2% surcharge authority for that class of mail.
