‘Cherries for Charity’ annual fundraiser begins
FARGO — They’re one of the sweetest treats of the summer season.
And now, you can indulge, and make life a little sweeter for families in our region struggling with the bitterness of domestic violence.
Cherries for Charity is kicking off its 42nd year of fundraising at area Hornbacher’s.
For each pound of Bing cherries sold, 25 cents goes toward the metro-based Rape and Abuse Crisis Center, and the YWCA.
Both nonprofits work with domestic abuse survivors, go to the hospital with rape victims for sexual assaults, offer counseling to families, and do school presentations to teach kids about healthy safe relationships.
Jody Hudson, of the RACC, and Allison Pillar, of the YWCA, joined the Morning Show for a live interview about how surprised most people are to find out domestic violence and sex assault probably affects someone they know, and why removing the fear and stigma of talking about both is the first step to solving it.
