LIVE: Running Toward Healing
FARGO — It is something most parents can’t imagine the feeling of, and can’t bear to: the loss of a child.
But after a Rapid City, S.D. dentist and his wife lost their teenage daughter Lilli in a car crash, they discovered there was a way to heal some of the hurt in their hearts.
Joshua Nehring wasn’t a runner, at first, but his wife Stacy got him started.
They both pulled out of running events after Lilli died, but when Joshua got back out on the road, he realized when he returned, he felt better.
He was a better parent, better partner, and better equipped to navigate the tricky path that is surviving profound loss and grieving.
So now, Joshua is going on odyssey, running from state capitol to state capitol to raise awareness about grief for those who’ve lost loved ones and friends, and how you can survive it.
He started the trip earlier this summer at Lilli’s grave in Rapid City.
He’ll ultimately cover 17,000 miles across 48 states.
The Nehrings say they think it’s never been done before.
They took a break in mid-project to sit down for a live in-studio interview on the Morning Show where they explained where the inspiration for the project came from and what they’ve found is the most effective way to give your life meaning after profound loss.
