Fargo Commission Not Only Got An Earful About Cutting DEI, But Also About Rising Taxes

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Fargo City Commissioners voted 4-1 last night to make cuts to the proposed 2025 budget, including ending the DEI program.
They cut a total of 6.2 positions including three which are currently occupied and three-point-two that are vacant.
The total savings in salary and benefits would be over $680,000 in a budget that is worth $133 million.
During a public hearing, people got up and spoke in support of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program which was started after the murder of George Floyd.
But also during the half hour of public comments, some people got up to say they just want a break.
“Just a small break. We’ve paid for schools for our children, our grandchildren, we’re down to great-grandchildren. Give us a break, we’re not making $100,000 a year anymore,” said one woman who lives in Fargo.
“We’re way down in sales but our property taxes went up again. My personal taxes went up again. And there has got to be some relief and you have to make hard decisions,” said another Fargo resident.
The final hearing on the budget will be held in two weeks before a final vote.
