Fargo AMVETS honor veterans with traditional military meal
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Fargo’s AMVETS held their annual Veterans Day SOS event in honor of the day.
For a free-will donation, people were served a plate of SOS, or “Stuff On a Shingle,” starting at 11 this morning.
The dish of white gravy over toast got its SOS nickname from soldiers serving in World War II.
Mark Wagemann, Fargo AMVETS, says, “We like to have a really good time on Veterans Day. We have SOS, a common military food. We serve that every Veterans Day. We started at 11. We go until it’s gone. Just people come in, have a good time and comradery, and just celebrating Veteran’s Day thanking each other. I mean, Veteran’s Day is a celebration of the end of the War. Eleven, eleven, eleven.”
Money raised by the SOS meals will be going to building a new handicap entrance for the club.
