ND Gov. Kelly Armstrong Pushes for Bill To Ban Cell Phones In School
BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — Governor Kelly Armstrong and Lt. Gov. Michelle Strinden highlighted a bill focused on banning cell phone usage in North Dakota schools.
The concerns brought to attention were focused on students’ mental health and lack of attention to their peers and teachers.
72% of K-12 teachers have admitted that cell phone usage has caused great distractions for students.
Armstrong calls for schools to pay attention to having phones put away and any other distracting devices.
“We’re not asking people how to parent. We’re not telling what they can and can’t sign their kids up for, not telling them what they can have on their phones. We’re just telling them that they can’t have their phones from bell to bell because we think it’ll increase their learning, it’ll increase their mental health, and it’ll increase outcomes,” said Gov. Kelly Armstrong, (R) North Dakota
The bill now moves forward to the Senate.
