LIVE: Growing Concerns with the New Farm Bill

FARGO — North Dakota farmers are fresh off the plane from Washington, D.C. after a weeklong trip asking Congress to pass a farm bill to offset the pressures faced by their industry.

As part of it, they want SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, to be preserved, to help American families improve their food-buying power in the face of rising grocery costs.

They’re also trying to get country of origin labeling requirements added to help consumers better identity American-produced beef and other proteins, both for safety and sustainability’s sake.

Their biggest priority, though, is improving the federal safety net for farmers.

Aaron Krauter is with the North Dakota Farmer’s Union and joined the Morning Show to talk about the Week of Action and the top priorities for the farm bill, why they don’t want to see farmers and consumers’ interests being divided, and how tariffs are affecting farmer’s future ability to secure fertilizer, herbicides and manufactured equipment parts to keep their operations running.
