DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KVRR) — Sen. Nicole Mitchell of Woodbury, Minnesota will be sentenced on September 10 after being found guilty in Detroit Lakes.

A jury convicted Mitchell on two counts of burglary and possession of burglary tools for breaking into her stepmother’s home in April 2024.

During the trial, she testified that she lied to officers about her intent to gather some of her late father’s belongings.

Instead she says she just wanted to check on Carol Mitchell, who has Alzheimer’s disease.

Carol discovered an intruder crawling on the floor of her bedroom in the middle of the night and called 9-1-1.

Yesterday, the DFL senator announced that she will resign her seat by August 4.

Republicans are calling on her to resign immediately.
