FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Two members of a critically endangered world monkey species have arrived at Red River Zoo.

The pied tamarins have been given the names “Noah” and “Peanut Butter”.

They are currently completing a standard quarantine period in the Zoo’s Discovery Center.

They come from a small region in Brazil and face threats from habitat loss, urban development and competition from other tamarin species.

Their wild population is projected to decline by as much as 80% over the next 18 years.

Red River Zoo is now one of only seven in the United States caring for this rare and remarkable primate.

They will share updates on Noah and Peanut Butter’s progress on its social media pages.
