FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — 1,200 people gobbled it up with this year’s 13th annual ‘Burn the Bird’ 5k and 10k event.

The YMCA of the Northern Sky and SoleMOTION Race Management teamed up once again to offer the annual event on the morning of Thanksgiving.

The race is part of hundreds of races taking place across the country.

Proceeds from the race will once again benefit the Livestrong program, which helps local cancer survivors find community and improve their health.

“When you’re out here, that’s the best part of Burn the Bird. Isn’t the run, the run is great, we’re glad we’re doing it, it isn’t the money we’ll receive for Livestrong, that’s great too. But it’s about the community coming together, having the shared experience and celebrating the great things that they do,” said Steve Smith, President and CEO of YMCA.

In addition to the event, the YMCA is also inviting participants and community members to help bring local teens and children hope through the season’s Giving Tree Effort.
