Preparations ongoing for Concordia’s 99th Christmas Concert

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — Thousands of people will be making their way to this year’s 99th Concordia Christmas Concert. With this year’s theme, “Welcome All Wonders.”

“The Welcome All Wonders is really about all of those things we celebrate on a yearly basis. All of those elements that go into making a Christmas concert happen. And today and this year, we’re celebrating all of those in one big smorgasbord, to use a Scandinavian word. Of music and narration, and theatrical lighting to bring this year’s concert to our audience,” said Michael Culloton, Artistic Director of the Concordia Christmas Concert and Director of Choral Activities.

Since 1927, the Concordia Christmas Concerts have been a vital part of the community, growing bigger each year. With their recognition, the college has received an Emmy for two performances in 2017 and 2010. But while they have received this recognition in the past, they say the concert and people are the ones who are meaningful.

“It is a huge privilege and honor to be part of this tradition, Emmy or not. Even just to be part of the choral tradition here at Concordia. But that is also very cool to think about. And that just reflects how meaningful these concerts are to so many people in Moorhead and also far beyond,” said Stephanie Tubiolo, Associate Director of Choirs at Concordia College.

Along with the theme, both choir and orchestra ensembles will be performing a song with them, Welcome All Wonders. Bringing together the performance.

“I’m excited for the audiences to come to the concerts not only to hear the music that they love and some new music that they’ll be introduced to, but to be inspired by nearly 360 students who are giving of their talents to share this concert with their community. And they should be inspired by young, 18 to 21 year olds who are so selfless in sharing. And inspiring in their music making as well,” said Culloton.

Tickets are still on sale for this year’s performance, you can find it on this website.
