Sanford welcomes first Fargo baby of 2026

FARGO — Sanford Health has announced their first baby of the new year born in Fargo.

Little baby Omar was born just after 12:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

He weighs seven pounds, five ounces.

His mother says that Omar arrived just a little bit earlier than expected, as his due date was January 15.

Little baby Omar has six siblings waiting to greet him when he gets home.

While the Omar already had a name waiting for him when he was born, his mother Ifrah Ahmed says she just likes the name.

Ahmed says that one of her other children also has their birthday on a holiday. That child was born on Christmas Day.
