Democrat Rep. Zac Ista of Grand Forks, the minority leader, will not seek re-election

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — North Dakota House Minority Leader Zac Ista announces that he will not seek re-election in the fall.
Ista was first appointed to the seat in 2020 to fill out Rep. Matt Eidson’s term.
He was elected in 2022.
Ista says the legislature demands substantial time away from his family, which is especially difficult while his kids are young.
In a statement he said that he looks forward to serving District 43 through the end of his term.
Although I will not be on the ballot this year, I remain committed to the values that led me to public service, and I will continue seeking opportunities to contribute to our state and party. In 2026, that means supporting serious, principled, and fearless leaders who are willing and able to step forward in this moment. I hope you will join me in working tirelessly to elect them.
