$650,000 remodeling project underway at residence of NDSU president

FARGO (KVRR-KFGO) – Work is underway on a renovation project of the North Dakota State University president’s home on campus.

NDSU Foundation President and CEO John Glover says the foundation is covering the cost of the $650,000 project.

Glover says the money is coming from foundation reserves and no active fundraising for the project has occurred or will occur. He says the foundation’s executive governing board approved the financial commitment at it’s meeting on Feb. 13.

Glover says the renovations will address safety, security, privacy, completion of unfinished space, and needed maintenance on the second floor and the basement. He says upon the departure of former NDSU President David Cook, it was determined that the timing was right to complete the remodeling during the interim period.

Glover says the renovation was not part the employment agreement for incoming president Marshall Stewart. Stewart takes over at the end of May. He comes from Kansas State University. His one-year contract will pay him $550,000. Stewart will also receive $46,000 for moving expenses.

The State Board of Higher Education requires that the president and family live in the home. It has not undergone significant renovation since it was completed in 2009. Three presidents and their families have lived in the home.
