Man arrested for stealing car in Fargo, impersonating highway patrol trooper

PETERSBURG, N.D. (KVRR-KFGO) – The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office says a man is jailed in Devils Lake and facing a number of charges, including impersonating a law enforcement officer.

A sheriff’s deputy made a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle near Petersburg in northeast North Dakota around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was stolen from the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Another deputy and a K-9 were brought in to deter the suspect from trying to leave the scene.

Sheriff Kurt Schwind says the suspect, Bruce Laverdure, claimed he was working undercover for the Highway Patrol. Laverdure has a lengthy criminal history including multiple felonies dating back to 2005.

Laverdure, is accused of possession of controlled substances, controlled substance paraphernalia, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving under suspension, impersonating a highway patrolman, and other warrants.
