Dilworth Kite Festival Part of Emphasis on Local Events

City officials say they want to make sure that as the community grows, they have events like the Kite Festival to call their own.

DILWORTH, MN (KVRR) – Dilworth’s second annual Kite Festival took place on May 9th at Bob Marshall Field.

The first installment served as something of a test run – a flier, if you will – to see if there was local interest.

“Some people would see the kites from I-94, follow them into town, then get to see Dilworth and be part of the community for a little bit,” said Dilworth Police Chief Hunter Rawson.

The second showed just how excited this expanding community is to get outside and spend time with one another.

The whole event had kind of a festival feel, with professional kite fliers showcasing their massive creations, face-painters keeping non-kite-fliers occupied, and food trucks for the hungry attendees.

All of that was made possible by local businesses and the enthusiasm of the locals themselves.

“Yeah, we’re going to try and make this an annual event. It really is such a great turnout,” said Rawson.

“Now we’re just trying to fine-tune the weather timing. That’s the hard part,” he added with a laugh.

Regarding that weather – temperatures in Dilworth did rise into the mid-50s on Saturday, but they were matched by wind gusts that reached over twenty miles an hour at times.
