FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Senator John Hoeven is pushing for extra funding to redevelop the former Mid-America Steel site in Fargo.

The site, located along 2nd St. N and NP Ave. has been empty since the building was torn down in 2021.

Due to it being a former industrial site, the city must address environmental conditions before any redevelopment could move forward.

Hoeven is pushing to use the EPA’s Brownfields program as a way to secure funding for a redevelopment of the site.

“It’s just a beautiful area. We’ve already been developing affordable housing and senior housing in the area, and this whole area all lays out along the park. So again will you work with me, and the city of Fargo, and our other partners?” Hoeven asked EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin.

The Brownfields Program was previously used to support the remediation of the Lashkowitz Tower which was adjacent to the Mid-America Steel site, prior to its demolition and redevelopment.
