Walk Raises Money for Type 1 Diabetes Research, Treatment
Community ambassadors were partially responsible for recruiting participants and forming walking teams.

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Researchers continue to push for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes – and community organizers in the Fargo-Moorhead area spent Saturday trying to do their part.
The annual Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes Walk took place at the Rustad Recreation Center on May 16.
Teams, some wearing t-shirts custom-made for the event, tackled the one-mile walk on the Rustad’s walking track, raising money with each step.
Ambassadors for Type 1 Diabetes say that seeing folks turn out to assist in the fight against the condition makes them feel validated.
“It’s really empowering for me personally to be able to be a part of this thing that is helping people like me every day,” said Skylar Powell, who has Type 1.
“Diabetes is a very invisible disability, so making it visible is very important, and this is an amazing way to do that,” she added,
Organizers estimate Saturday’s walk raised over $40,000 for research, advocacy, and support.
