Fargo Police Department welcomes seven new officers and 39th Police Chief
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — On Tuesday, seven new officers and a Chief of Police joined the ranks of the Fargo Police Department. Leading the department into its next chapter.
“Leadership is not standing at the finish line telling others what to do. Leadership is being willing to walk into the challenge with you and beside you. So while today is the beginning of your policing career, it is also the beginning of a new chapter for our department. And we want you to know this: we believe in this profession, we believe in this department, and we believe in you,” said Travis Stefonowicz, Fargo Police Chief.
Travis Stefonowicz is no stranger to both the city of Fargo and the Fargo Police Department. Since May of 2002, Stefonowicz has been active in taking many initiatives within the department, including wellness programming for all employees and the implementation of the first-ever Fargo Police Academy. Tuesday marked the academy’s ninth class graduation.
“Throughout the entire academy, they preach to us the culture here. And I think just realizing it’s more than just myself and I’m representing the entire Fargo Police Department, and not only that, the community of Fargo. So, I think that’s what I’ll remember most, and that’s what I’ll take with me onto the street,” said Ethan Quinlan, Newly Sworn-in Fargo Police Officer.
While Stefonowicz has been in the role for the last two weeks, many in the department and surrounding law enforcement agencies believe Stefonowicz is the man for the job.
“You’re entering this profession at a challenging time in policing. Expectations are high, scrutiny is high, the work is more complex than ever. But I also believe this is the most important and meaningful profession a person can choose,” said Stefonowicz.
