Local Music Lovers React to Prince’s Sudden Death
The sudden loss of the music legend has taken many by surprise.
When you think vinyl one of the top ten names that comes to mind is Prince.
I spoke with two vinyl store owners in the metro who both say they plan on playing Prince all day.
From Little Red Corvette to Party Like it’s 1999, Aaron Swinkels, owner of Vinyl Gaint in Fargo, says losing the music legend hits close to home.
“Music means a lot to people so when something like this happens it feels like a member of your family or someone you really knew,” said Swinkels.
Swinkels says after hearing the news, he took to social media.
“I wrote a post that I feel like I’ve been stabbed in the heart. It’s been a really terrible short six months with Bowie, and now Prince. Those were pretty much my two favorite artists,” said Swinkels.
He isn’t the only that has took to social expressing their condolences.
Several people in the FM area have shared tweets on how Prince’s music has impacted their life.
“This is crazy no one I’m sure saw it coming,” said Matt Oland Owner of Orange Records in Fargo.
Matt of Orange Records in Fargo says anytime a Prince record hits the shelf, it never stays there long.
“Anytime a Prince record does come in they’re gone right away, they sell within a week or so,” said Oland.
He says there is always one record in particular that everyone is always asking for.
“As soon as Purple Rain comes in, its gone right away,” said Oland.
As the “Two thousand zero zero party over” comes to an abrupt end, fans will be reminiscing on Prince’s music for decades to come.
