United Way celebrates May Day by sharing the joys of reading.
United Way Women’s Leadership Council volunteers filling May Day baskets with books.
More than 1,000 books were given to children at YMCA of Cass & Clay Counties and other local childcare centers in the metro.
As part of the United Way’s Imagination Library program, the women also read books to the children.
United Way of Cass-Clay Kristina Hein says, “United Way really cares about making sure that kids are ready for kindergarten and a big component of that is making sure that they have books in their hands. And so today celebrates that and also just gets kids very excited to take a book home and hopefully they read with their mom or their dad or whoever they live with tonight and just have that love and excitement for literacy.”
This is the fourth annual United Way Women’s Leadership May Day Basket of Books event.
