Area College Students Celebrate Earth Day

MSUM, NDSU and Concordia College students celebrate Earth Day.
They are bringing awareness to various green issues.
One alum helps bring music to MSUM’s campus for the occasion.
Brian Peck graduated last spring and returned to play some of the campus’s favorite tunes in honor of Earth Day.
Powerplay DJ Brian Peck says, “Creating a good atmosphere and actually all this music is being run off solar power.”
One booth at MSUM gave a free water bottle or bike gadget to those who rode their bike to class.
Another had a free sustainable zero waste and organic meal for students.
MSUM President Anne Blackhurst says, “Our sustainability efforts help make our world a better place, help conserve our resources, help make ourplanet more sustainable for future generations.”
Concordia hosted Earth Day Lightning Talks focusing on environmental issues and concerns.
Concordia Student Maddie Hyde says, “It’s just supposed to be a quick way for everyone to casually learn about a topic and really enter into something new.”
If you’re not a college student you can still celebrate Earth Day.
The City of Fargo and NDSU partner to launch eFargo aiming to reduce energy consumption and increase renewables by 5% by 2016.
eFargo Project Leader Malini Srivastava says, “That’s the goal we’re going for. We’re trying to do the impossible.”
Other Earth Day included a “Downtown Cleanup” and a “Cleanup Thank You Party” at the HODO.
