Presidential Race Is On; Some Local Analysis
Sorry, this video is no longer available
The race to become president of the United States is underway.
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida joins several contenders for the next presidential election.
KVRR’s Aries Serrano brings us some local analysis.
Alison and TJ, I talked with an MSUM professor who tells me Senator Rubio may have a tough time securing the Republican nomination.
Political Science Professor Dr. Barbara Headrick says she’ll be shocked if he beats fellow Floridian Governor Jeb Bush, who has yet to to announce his candidacy but is expected to run.
She also says she is confident that Hilary Clinton will secure a spot as the Democratic Nominee.
One thing that won’t surprise her is the amount of money that will be spent on the race by all parties.
Dr. Barbara Hedrick, MSUM Political Science Professor: “I think some Democrats may run just to prod Hilary Clinton a little bit with realizing they don’t really have much of a chance to win unless something terrible happens to her.”
“This is going to be a shockingly amount of money involved in this. It’s very likely we’re looking at billions of dollars spent on picking the next president.”
Headrick tells us if Republicans pick Senator Rubio as the nominee, he will be the youngest since Teddy Roosevelt.
As for Hilary Clinton, she will start the campaign trail in Iowa on Tuesday.
Headrick expects presidential campaigning to be in full swing this summer.
