BlueLight App Comes to MSUM
MSUM is making history in Minnesota. The university has introduced a phone app that lets users send immediate emergency signals.
The use of the Blue Light App is a first for any college or corporation in Minnesota.
But at MSUM, will students actually use this technology?
With a press of the apps button, it sends a distress signal to law enforcement giving a students location on and off campus.
The app is now acting as a mobile emergency box seen on the MSUM campus. Public Safety officials hope the app will be well received.
MSUM’s Public Safety Shane Kelly said,”I’m located east of whatever land mark, I’m in the building etc. etc., but based of where I am where my phone is it’s going to tell us that so we can send help to wherever they need. So, if students know that I think they would be more inclined to download but if they still just want to pick up and call we’ll still answer.”
But how do actual students feel about this idea?
Sophomore Taylor Schmoltz might get the app and said,”I’ve never felt like the campus was a scary place personally even for me at night, but the app does sound like an interesting too for maybe someone who is new, or new to the area that’s probably more scared.”
Kevin Schwab a junior at MSUM said he will most likely download the app, but probably won’t need to use it. He also said, “Recent events around school and recent events around other schools, it’s nice to have kind of that safe guard in the case that something might happen it’s there for you.”
Students can now feel more comfortable knowing that help is only a click away.
And it’s not just for students, anyone can download the Blue Light App.
It is available for free on both iPhone and Android.
