Increasing Allowed Radioactive Waste Possible in North Dakota

Oil Field Waste

The state Health Department is looking at allowing elevated levels of radioactive waste at some North Dakota landfills.

The proposed rules would allow oilfield waste that’s 10 times higher than the current standard.

Health officials say that it would still be safe for people and the environment.

State regulators say proposed rules will help track oil field waste, in response to the growing number of illegally tossed filter socks.
