Horace couple petitions to shorten city fireworks ordinance

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — A Horace couple is asking people in town to sign off on reducing the city’s ordinance on fireworks in the future.

Horace’s current fireworks ordinance allows people to shoot them off for 10 days.

The petition is requesting that the ordinance be reduced to 3 days from July 3 through 5.

Horace City Council has previously taken up the matter.

The couple tells us that there has been some backlash from some people regarding the petition.

“This is not just for myself, there’s vulnerable seniors, there’s pet owners, and everything like that. So, it’s not just impacting a select few people, it’s a wide-ranging issue,” said Alan Turnmire.

The couple is aiming to have up to 600 signatures by July 31.

So far they have received over one hundred.
