Minnesota Vikings Legends Meet Fans, Raise Money for Local Shelter
The former players were busy over the weekend, signing autographs at Unhynged one evening and playing golf in Detroit Lakes the next day.
WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The Vikings-themed festivities were in full swing June 13th and 14th on both sides of the North Dakota – Minnesota border.
First on the agenda was a meet-and-greet Saturday at Unyhnged Sports Bar in West Fargo, where you could scarcely move amidst the sea of fans waiting to meet their heroes.
“I’ll tell you what, it was absolutely great. Everybody was very nice, very accommodating, everyone was excited, and we had a good time,” said former Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper.
Culpepper was in high demand there, but perhaps no-one was more popular than Adrian Peterson.
The legendary running back – the last non-quarterback to win NFL MVP, if you didn’t know – was signing autographs well after the event’s runtime.
Culpepper was back in the spotlight – and sunlight – on Sunday, as possibly the most famous Viking to participate in the Vikings Legends to the Rescue Charity Golf Tournament out at Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes.
Turns out – it was another beloved Viking quarterback who got the whole ball rolling.
“Tommy Kramer kind of put a call out on Facebook a while back, saying that they were going to be in the Wahpeton area doing a football camp, and they wanted to do something with a local rescue in the Fargo area,” explained Heather Klefstad, marketing director for Homeward Animal Shelter.
“I came up to support Tommy Kramer,” said Culpepper. “Anything that Tommy Kramer is throwing, I’m happy to support and be a part of.”
The tournament specifically – and the weekend in general – served as a benefit for Homeward Animal Shelter, an organization Culpepper said he was happy to support.
Homeward staff were stoked to see the massive turnout.
“It’s so exciting that everyone wants to come out for the fun and to support the shelter animals of Homeward,” said Klefstad.
Following the tournament, there was an afterparty at Fair Hills Resort with a live auction and even more photo and autograph opportunities.
