Two Republican Candidates Square Off In Today’s Primary
Two Republican candidates are competing in tomorrow’s Minnesota primary election for the chance to run against longtime representative Collin Peterson.
Air–Force retiree Dave Hughes and small business owner Amanda Lynn Hinson are running for the 7th Congressional District seat.
Hinson says she can get the job done right since she’s lived here much longer, knows the area, and knows its people.
Hughes says he’s the more conservative one and wants to cut costs on what he calls a waste of tax dollars.
“We need someone in Washington who really does understand us and who can speak for us. I’ve written a book, and I want to tell the story of the people here. I want to bring that story of all the people here to Washington,” says candidate Amanda Hinson.
“The department of education, we already talked about that, the other four are energy, commerce, labor, and HUD; HUD is Housing and Urban Development. I find all five to be wasteful, and questionably constitutional,” says candidate Dave Hughes.
Peterson, a Democrat, has served as congressman in District 7 since 1991.
