New App Connects Community to the Police

With more people using smart phones, one North Dakota Police Force is taking advantage of the tech trend.

The Grand Forks Police Department’s Tip411 Mobile App connects cops to their community.

It includes an anonymous text–a–tip system as well as a way to view alerts and get information about what is going on in the Grand Forks area.

“This is not the platform to use if someone is in need of police services, if they want to speak to an officer, or if they need an officer to respond,” explained Lt. Derik Zimmel of the Grand Forks Police Department.

The app is available as a free download in the Google Play store, the iTunes App Store or through the department’s website.

People without a smartphone can submit tips through the police department’s website or by texting the letters GFPD along with the tip to the 411 tip line at 847411.
