West Fargo Police Department Gets $27K Grant

The West Fargo Department is getting new equipment for its department thanks to a local donation.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation announced that it has awarded a grant of over $27,000 to the department.

Money for the grant was raised in part by donations from Firehouse Subs customers.

The department will purchase ballistic vests and helmets that will be carried in police vehicles for high–risk incidents.

“We have 46 volunteers and four full–time paid staff right now, and we’re looking in the future of having to go to a higher number of full–time staff to provide fire suppression out of our southside station, and upping our volunteer numbers to 55,” Chief Mike Reitan said.

The fire department responded to 379 calls last year.

By 2020, that number could rise above 500.
