Will Local Coffee Shops Benefit From Starbuck Price Hike?
Starbucks raises its prices. Does that make life easier for local coffee peddlers?
The chain raised prices between 10 and 30 cents for a variety of coffee, espresso and latte drinks.
The announcement comes one day after the Starbucks CEO promised five percent raises for all employees this fall.
Local coffee places, like Ladybug Latte in West Fargo, don’t pay much attention to what the big chains do.
Owner Danell Phelps says most of her customers steer clear of corporate coffee chains.
But she still hears some complaining when Starbucks hikes prices.
She says, “I’ve had a couple customers mention it, but not so much that they’re complaining about it but just that they have noticed. I have had a couple people complain, maybe I guess.”
She says local coffee shops pay much more attention to what items Starbucks carries, instead of how much they cost.
