Ballot Measure to Raise Tobacco Taxes Introduced
A group is pushing a ballot measure to increase North Dakota’s tobacco taxes.
The coalition pushing the measure is called Raise it for Health, and is backed by the American Lung Association.
The coalition wants to raise the state’s 44–cent cigarette tax to $1.76 per pack.
Tax on other tobacco products would increase up to 58 percent.
The group needs to get around 13,000 signatures by July 11 to make the November ballot.
State lawmakers defeated two attempts to raise tobacco taxes last year.
