Armed Standoff Resolved Peacefully In Grand Forks

For the second time in a week in the region, police engage in an armed standoff.

This time, in Grand Forks.

A call around 5:30 PM sent officers to 1113 5th Ave north.

A suicidal man with a handgun was in the home.

He was making threats to harm himself and his family.

No family members were inside at the time.

Police issues a “Shelter In” order, asking nearby residents to stay in their homes.

A SWAT team arrived, and attempted to negotiate with the man.

Police say he did not threaten officers.

Around 8 PM, the man surrendered.

He was taken to the hospital.

He will be sent to jail after an examination.

Police lifted the “Shelter In” order, and say there is no longer any threat to the public.
