Richland County Settles Excessive Force Lawsuit

A federal civil rights lawsuit against the Richland County Sheriff’s Office is settled.

“Hands on the ground! Hands on the ground! Hands on the ground!!”

Three men claimed they were injured when two deputies used excessive force during a traffic stop in Abercrombie.

The North Dakota Insurance Reserve Fund will pay Christopher Miranowski over $76,000.

Derek Grund and Adam Nelson will each receive $15,000.

An additional $36,000 will pay medical liens.

The settlement says the payments are not an admission of liability.
