Minnesota Woman on Losing Brother During Las Vegas Shooting; Lawsuit Filed Over Mandalay Bay Response
Emily Alvarez lost her brother, Brian Fraser, to the shooting in Las Vegas. KMSP Fox 9 reporter, Christina Palladino has her story.
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — An Eden Prairie woman who lost her brother in the Las Vegas massacre is opening up about the heartbreak her family is going through.
Christina Palladino talked with the woman about losing a member of her family.
Emily Alvarez is a Special Education teacher at Minnetonka school.
She got the worst news in the world last week when she learned her older brother was one of 58 killed in Las Vegas.
She’s still too upset to do an interview, but we did communicate through email.
Emily said her 39-year-old brother, Brian Fraser, was a wonderful person.
Brian, who was with his wife and friends, separated from them and had moved to the front of the stage when superstar, Jason Aldean, had just started to play his favorite song.
That was when Brian was fatally shot.
He was living in California with his wife and four children at the time.
Emily said her brother was an amazing husband, father and says he will be so dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
His funeral service is on Saturday, October 14.
Meanwhile, a lawsuit has been filed by a California student injured in the shooting.
The suit raises questions about how quickly staff at Mandalay Bay responded to several urgent calls from other hotel guests about shots being fired from the 32nd floor.
A security guard was shot while responding to Stephen Paddock’s room.
The suit claims the hotel could have done more to improve their security protocols.
We’re also learning that Paddock took advantage of a perk at the Mandalay Bay for being such a high roller.
He was allowed access to a private elevator and a bellhop that may have unknowingly helped him carry up the arsenal of weapons and multiple bags to his room.
Now, the FBI has also added Paddock’s girlfriend to the travel watch list.
She will have to undergo extra screening and must notify authorities if she plans to leave the country.
Marylou Danley apparently is still cooperating with investigators.
A Minot realtor who was shot during the massacre has undergone four surgeries.
Co-workers at Century 21 in Minot say Andrew Gudmunson was able to walk down the hall with assistance on Wednesday.
