West Fargo Sheyenne Volleyball Wins EDC Tournament; Earns 1 seed in State Tournament
THE MUSTANGS ENTERED THE EDC TOURNAMENT AS THE 5-SEED, BUT WON IT ALL ON SATURDAY.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — On Saturday, an EDC Volleyball champion was crowned and it was not the 1,2,3 or 4 seed taking the title. The 5-seeded West Fargo Sheyenne Mustangs took home the title winning 3-2 over Shanley. With the win, the ‘Stangs will enter the Class A state tournament as the 1-seed out of the East. Head Coach Leah Newton shared her thoughts on her team’s run in the EDC tournament following Saturday’s win.
“These girls played with a lot of heart,” said Newton. “They did everything that we asked them to do. They put everything into practice coming up to this and we felt like we had a good shot to make a run at it. There’s a lot of great teams, so it’s just really fun to see them never give up and never quit.”
Senior Izzy Albrecht says she believed in her team the entire tournament.
“I always knew we had the potential to play like this and do this and I’m glad that all our hard work in this season is really paying off especially in the tournament,” said Albrecht. “Everybody on this team gives 100% all the time. Everybody was just so happy to know that all our hard work has paid off.”
WF Sheyenne will take on Bismarck in the first round. Game is set for Thursday, November 16 at 1 p.m. at the FargoDome.
