Man Claims He Hit Deer, But He Actually Hit A Woman Walking Along Hwy 59 in Waubun

WAUBUN, Minn. (KVRR) — A Grand Rapids, Minnesota man is jailed after hitting a woman walking along Highway 59 near Waubun last night and leaving the scene.

Witnesses heard 27-year-old Rainey Midbo of Lengby screaming and saw a black SUV heading south on Highway 59.

They took the woman to the hospital in Mahnomen and she was then flown to Fargo with serious injuries.

A Becker County deputy stopped the vehicle of 35-year-old Spence Bilden on Highway 59.

Bilden said his vehicle was damaged and headlight was out after hitting a deer in Waubun.

He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for criminal vehicular operation and leaving the scene of an accident.
