The Salvation Army gives out annual Thanksgiving food boxes
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The Salvation Army steps up to give out Thanksgiving food boxes for those in need around the metro.
Nearly 700 boxes were given out to people in need around the community.
“Well it really is a beautiful experience that we have and we know that thanks goes to the community and provides the funding to provide these ideas to people to have a holiday meal together. Thanksgiving is an important time not just to reflect and give thanks but for family to be together for the lonely to come in and unify with others and all those things that are a important part of our social make up as well so it’s a great event.” Says Salvation Army’s Major Abe Tamayo.
Volunteers from American Crystal Sugar came out to help assemble the Food boxes.
The boxes are funded by donations from the community throughout the year.
“It means the world because we see each other, we understand the struggle where some may not have and we are so joyful to give. Whether it’s volunteering our time or coming in and helping, just giving to those who don’t have during this time.” Says Salvation Army’s Ritchell Aboah.
Giving Back is especially important to Salvation Army’s major as he was once in the same situation around the holidays.
“Well Growing up poor as a young man, family of 8 children, you know very poor and know that our food source sometimes at thanksgiving at Christmas came through the salvation army. It’s a great opportunity to pay it forward and allow the next generation service. So it means a lot to me personally to ensure that people are getting what they need, that they’re holiday is complete. They’re not lonely, they’re not without substance. That they have a nice time with family.” Said Tamayo.
The Salvation Army will be hosting its Army Toy Shop on December 18th at Hope Lutheran Church.
