Two Proposed Roundabouts in West Fargo Paused After Public Protest

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Around twenty people who live near a proposed roundabout at 52nd Avenue and 9th Street West in West Fargo were able to stop it, for now.
They appeared at Monday night’s city commission meeting and some called the project less safe for kids walking to school at Legacy Elementary.
Most are also concerned about the addition of another special assessment to help pay for the project.
Commissioners voted to pause it and instead install a four-way stop while the city looks into other funding sources and future traffic use.
“Right now in my home I’m over $30,000 of special assessments, right now. We’ve only been in the neighborhood for a year but I can attest as we continue to see additional assessments come our way that we are a community that needs the opportunity to be heard and the community and the neighborhood that needs the opportunity for a pause,” said Kelly Schmidt.
“The people don’t want this. I mean we never get this type of public feedback. The amount of emails we got and letters and the people that are here should speak to this project that they don’t want this.,” said West Fargo City Commissioner Mandy George.
Around 50% of people near a second proposed roundabout south of Costco protested, prohibiting the city from using special assessments for that project.
City leaders will look at including it in a future capital improvement plan.
