Concordia prepares for 97th annual Christmas concert

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – Concordia College has been preparing for its annual Christmas concerts.

The 97th annual Christmas concert will be performed four times in Moorhead. Then they’ll hit the road for two shows in Minneapolis.

Physical preparations are going on right now, but the planning for this show has been going on all year.

Wyatt Steinke, Executive Producer of the Concordia Christmas concert, said, “Yeah, well preparations start all the way in January, we’re already having our first Christmas concert meetings already for the next year to talk about what  we’re gonna do.”

Steinke also said, “But we generally throughout July and August are meeting to talk about Christmas artwork and themes.”

For the concert, countless murals are prepared by Paul Johnson for the background of the concert. The themes are always Christmas and the son of Christ, but there will be something else at this concert too.

Paul Johnson, Muralist for the Concordia Christmas concert, said, “Initially you got the same theme, of the Christ child and shepherds and so forth, but this year has another story that’s involved into it as well.”

This Christmas concert is a huge event that many students and producers take part in every year, and the people involved love the opportunity to perform for the public. Steinke said “Yeah it’s one of my favorite parts of the job, it’s one of the most special things we do all year, We have thousands of people that come every year to the four concerts here in Moorhead and two in Minneapolis.”

The four concerts in Moorhead take place on December 1st- 3rd in the memorial auditorium. The two in Minneapolis take place on December 7th in the Orchestra Hall. Tickets are available at http://christmasatconcordia.com/
