Fake Motion Picture Money Attempted to be Used at West Fargo Diner

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – A West Fargo restaurant is warning other businesses that fake motion picture bills, or fake money, are being used for purchases.

Randy’s Diner Too put out a Facebook post regarding the fake bills to alert other business owners.

This was the second bill the diner has seen in the past two months.

“It’s the feel of it, it definitely has a different feel to it has a different glare to it. The pen that most people use for counter fitting It does not work on the bill, that I didn’t use at the time I just knew it wasn’t right and when I talked to the person that gave it to me they informed me it was supposed to be a joke but it’s not a joke when you’re taking from other businesses.” Says Randy’s Dinner Too’s Joe LeDoux.

The first one went undetected and was finally realized when being counted by a bank’s counting machine.

“It’s unfortunate because this kind of thing has happened in the area before and it’s usually around the holiday season. People think, as there’s more people in the area out shopping coming to more restaurants, bars and they just get missed unfortunately.” Said LeDoux.

West Fargo Police department said counterfeit bills come and go in waves

“It’s sporadic throughout the area usually when we start seeing one we start seeing a group of them but then it can go through a dry spell real quick too so it just kind of depends on who’s bringing them in and when they going to start trying to pass them.” Said West Fargo Police Department’s Sergeant Tim Runcorn.

Randy’s said this is a great learning experience for his staff moving forward.

“You could definitely get mad about it but it’s not going to solve anything. You have to take everything as a learning experience. I’ve been in the business for a long time, over 30 something years. So take everything as a learning experience and try to teach your staff, try to be a leader, educator at the same time.” Said LeDoux.

The West Fargo Police Department has not seen a noticeable increase in calls this month for counterfeit money.
