Pertussis “Whooping Cough” Cases on the Rise in Cass County

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is rapidly spreading in Cass County, with 12 reported cases in the past month.
Typically there are just eight cases in an average year.
Fargo Cass Public Health says people with pertussis usually spread it by coughing or sneezing while in close contact with others.
It is highly contagious and one of the most commonly occurring vaccine-preventable diseases in the United States.
C-D-C recommends pertussis vaccination for all babies and kids, preteens, and pregnant women.
Adults who have never received a pertussis vaccination should also get a Tdap shot which can also prevent tetanus and diphtheria.
