BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) – Governor Doug Burgum declared a statewide emergency due to this week’s ice storm.

Burgum also plans to request a presidential disaster declaration in order to get federal funding to help pay for response costs and infrastructure repairs.

The Governor’s Office says the storm caused the first Ice Storm Warning in North Dakota since 2016, toppled more than 1,400 power polls, caused millions in damage and left more than 20,000 North Dakotans without power.
