WASKISH, Minn. (KVRR) — The Beltrami County sheriff says the vehicle restriction on Upper Red Lake remains in place as they monitor ice conditions.

The sheiff and deputies met with resort operators who say there are still significant ice cracks which resulted in several ice floes.

Some of the openings are the size of a football field.

Another concern brought up is people being irresponsible.

One of the resort operators said, “Common sense is lacking when people are trying to get a TikTok video with open water at their feet.”

The resort operators and guide services have been granted permission to operate motor vehicles on the ice.

Sheriff Jason Riggs says that they are the first responders to their customers.
