Local Reaction to a “Universal” Mistake
Steve Harvey sent an apology tweet, full of misspellings, to both contestants after he announced the wrong winner.
People who tuned in all seem to have their own opinions.
“…damn.”
“Poor Miss Colombia.”
“There are no words I sat there just absolutely stunned.”
Kathy Yohe has worked as the North Dakota State Pageant director for 21 years.
She says it’s not often a mistake that big happens during a pageant.
“I thought they handled it quite well with grace, and dignity, but unbelievable,” said Kathy.
Kathy says one disappointment to last night’s huge fiasco is that it took the attention away from what’s important: the girls.
Steve Harvey memes have been the talk all over social media.
“And maybe he was trying to think hey this could be my little time in the sun here, and then he had to own up but you know its live television, and mistakes happen too,” said Kathy.
Kyja Omdahl of Fargo says Harvey’s misspelled tweet added insult to injury.
“The apology tweet was like a willful ignorance spelling both countries names wrong; kind silly. I bet Donald trump feels good,” said Omdahl.
Others say the mistake gave them a good laugh.
“I thought what Steve did was good, but then again I thought it was a little joke and everything I thought it was funny,” said Robert Garnet of Fargo.
I guess they do say any press is good press.
Harvey has since rewritten his apology tweet.
