Standing Order for Free Naloxone for North Dakota Medicaid Members

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — North Dakota Medicaid members will now have access to free Naloxone, the medication used to block or reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

The standing order was issued by North Dakota Health and Human Services.

Statewide Medicaid enrolled pharmacies will be allowed to dispense over-the-counter naloxone products at no cost to Medicaid members.

The pharmacies will then submit a claim for reimbursement to North Dakota Medicaid.

The order is for one year and must be renewed annually.

Agency data shows, North Dakota Medicaid paid for over 200 prescriptions of naloxone in just a three-month period.
