UPDATE: All Clear Given After Gas Leak Reported on UND Campus

5:30 PM UPDATE:  An alert sent out by UND after 1 this afternoon warned people about a gas leak on campus.

It was due to two large propane tanks on fire.

The tanks were being used to heat a construction area.

Grand Forks Fire crews worked to cool the tanks down and get the supply valves shut off.

Fire damage was contained to construction site materials and the tanks.

UND High Performance Center was evacuated as well as all construction workers in the vicinity.

The leak was determined to be accidental due to a broken fitting.

 

3:05 PM UPDATE:  UND Grand Forks: This is an all clear notification. The gas leak emergency at 2500 2nd Avenue North has ended. ALL CLEAR.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) — An alert sent out by University of North Dakota around 1:30 pm is warning people about a gas leak on campus.

“There is a propane leak near the Fritz Pollard Center and EERC. Please avoid the area until emergency crews can mitigate the issue!”, said the post.

UND Police say only EERC and the Fritz Pollard Center have been evacuated.

At this time the Grand Forks Fire Department isn’t ordering additional evacuations.
