NWS: Significant Spring Flooding Risk is Low in Red River Valley

Flood Outlook 012524

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) — The first spring flooding outlook looks very promising for the Red River Valley.

National Weather Service predicts minor to isolated moderate flooding in some areas.

Rain and freezing rain last month helped increase the amount of moisture that is available to run into streams and rivers.

But snowfall has been well below normal across much of the region.

Soil moisture is below normal in the north to near normal in the south.

Additional precipitation along with the timing of the thaw cycle will be the most important spring flood risk factors.

The next outlook is expected February 15.
