MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – One iconic Moorhead ice cream shop is kicking a major anniversary by doing something it’s never done before.

For the first time in memory, the Historic Moorhead Dairy Queen is opening in February.
They are hosting a “soft serve” opening party on Thursday, February 29th from 7 to 10 p.m.
The Dairy Queen is giving out commemorative stickers to customers to celebrate.
2024 marks 75 years serving up sweets at the place where the Dilly Bar was invented.
That special anniversary is what inspired the owners to open in February for the very first time.

Co-owner Troy DeLeon says, “We’ve talked about it for years whenever there is a leap year. But then, it just didn’t seem right. But now, it all kind of fell together perfectly because it’s our 75th anniversary and it’s leap year and it’s like ok, this is the time to do it.”

The Historic Moorhead Dairy Queen is celebrating its 75th anniversary all season long. Each month they will feature treats from each decade they’ve been open, starting from the 1940’s.
