Window safety awareness week: Keeping children safe in the home
FARGO (KVRR) – The first week of April is Window Safety Awareness, as roughly eight children a year die from falling out of a window. As the temperatures start to warm up and people open up windows, it’s important to keep your kids safe.
Avoid using windows that can be accessed by kids. Supervise children at all times if a window is open, and avoid placing furniture in a way that gives them access to windows as well.
“Screens are meant to keep bugs out, not children in. A lot of times you find if you open the window for that Spring fresh air children might be able to climb, especially if you have furniture under your window.” said Kailyn Allen, a Community Life Educator for Sanford Safe Kids FM.
Also, when it comes to strings for blinds in the home it is important to keep those out of their reach because those too can cause harm.
